Trained in process-based industrial design, Malvika Vaswani - creative force behind the eponymous label - started her design journey at the Rhode Island School of Design in the US. Having designed jewelry for BCBGeneration and home wares for Teroforma, she returned to India and dedicated herself to interior design and architecture.
Her cross continental and disciplinary experiences led to the creation of first, Aunterra - an award winning jewelry brand created to test the design boundaries in India, - and later, her own label. In less than 2 years, the brand has become the talk of the town. Covers of magazines. A loyal celebrity following. Industry recognition with numerous fashion accolades, including the Grazia Young Fashion Awards, Vogue India Fashion Fund, Lakme Fashion and Amazon India Fashion Weeks. And Malvika is just getting started!
Inspired by the internationalist movement, unexpected materials and local techniques, Malvika creates for our indigenous modernity. She believes strongly in the sustenance of Indian artisanal techniques and continuously strives to develop innovative applications for their revival. Be it jewelry, home wares or occasional furniture pieces. Avid experimenter, she is constantly looking to work with new materials and design forms - clay pottery, wood and glassware are just some of the latest items on her list.
What was the first piece of jewelry that you ever designed?
... this space age / sci fi looking bangle, primarily to understand the processes involved in hand construction of jewelry. ... not ... very usable, it was designed to make me technically sound and to challenge my knowledge as an industrial designer in college. Since then, I have learned how to use craft, technique and technology to my advantage keeping in mind the end user and their preferences in terms of comfort, usability and aesthetic.

“Design is a method of action” and funny enough- “god helps those who help themselves”
Who would you love to wear your pieces?
I would love any woman who is confident, strong and independent to wear my pieces.
Where would you go in a time machine?
I would go back to the future ;)
What super power would you like to have?
I would like to be able to read peoples minds! My super hero winner definitely is Batman!
What's your favorite city in the world?
After Mumbai – NEW YORK hands down!
What's one cause that you would want people to rally behind?
I have a few. Women’s empowerment / education. Craft and cultural heritage sustenance. Abolishing child labour. Environmental protection
